Golden Football Night
Football, not soccer, is not just a sport. It is a passion, a way of life. This is not only the most popular sport in the world, it is also a simple activity that brings together people of any age, race, and ethnicity. It breaks the barriers of division and prejudice. Due to its extreme popularity, the athletes of this game have to set a good example to the public that watches them daily. These athletes are also awarded for the talents in an annual gala called FIFA Ballon d’Or (which mean Golden Ball Award). In this acknowledgement there are 4 awards to players, 2 awards for coaches, and 2 awards for football organizations or personalities that contributed to the game.
The first award is FIFA World XI. This is a team made up of the best players for each position in the field. Essentially, it is the best team of the year. The winners were: Manuel Neuer as goalkeeper; Philipp Lahm , Sergio Ramos, David Luiz, Thiago Silva as defenders; Toni Kroos, Andres Iniesta, and Angel Di Maria as midfielders; and Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Arjen Robben as forwards.
Next player award is for the best goal of the year. It is called The Puskás Award. This award is given to the players that make the most beautiful goals. Out of three nominees, the Colombian, James Rodriguez, won the award for his tremendous volley goal scored against Uruguay in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Now we have the Presidential Award. This award is an Association given award. The winner of this award was Hiroshi Kagawa. He was the head of the press covering the World Cup final. He is now 89 years-old and has covered his 10th World Cup final.
The other non-personal award is the FIFA Fair Play Award. This award prices the good sporting behavior or sportsmanship of bodies of Association Football. The winners of this year’s award was given to all the volunteers that helped tremendously for the organization of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Next we have personal Awards. Two awards were given for the best coaches of the year. One for the best coach of women football and one to men football. The winner for the best female football coach was given to Ralf Kellermann for his outstanding career with the Vlf Wolfsburg of Germany. The male football coach award was given to Joachim Löw also a German coach that lead Germany to their 4th World Cup capitulation.
The next award was given to for the best female player. This award was given to Nadine Kessler. She was voted from two other woman nominees as best female player. She also plays for Vlf Wolfsburg.
Finally, the best award, which is the FIFA Ballon d’Or award, was granted to Cristiano Ronaldo who won this personal title against Lionel Messi, and Manuel Neuer. He was voted the best male player of 2014. This is the third and second in a row FIFA Ballon d’Or that the Portuguese player has won in his career.
In the pinnacle of football everyone wants to be a star. It is something that moves millions of people and grants the player fame and fortune. And athletes win all of these privileges only by doing what they love, playing this beautiful sport.
