I don't know if you have seen one of the 143,905,476,430,439 posters throughout the school, but Sowah is coming to CIPLC!
Not every day can CIPLC welcome a professional musician from Ghana, famous for his original compositions and expansion of typical African music. The week of March 9, CIPLC will be working with Mr. Sowah Mansah through the music department, and kids from all grades will be performing together in a concert at the end of the week after learning from the composer himself all of the pieces.
The High School Band will be featuring a drumming piece, while the Middle School and Elementary will be working on dancing and singing pieces respectively. At the end of the week, on Friday the 13th, the entire school will get together to perform the song from 2 - 2:45 pm.
Throughout the week, secondary students - and also parents - are invited to participate in workshops. This is an amazing opportunity to learn about the native music and instruments from West Africa, directly from the man who exported the sounds to the Western world.
However, recent news has exploded about American citizens needed work visas to come to Venezuela. This current event might raise some issues about Sowah's immigration to the country. Nonetheless, we hope that there are no troubles regarding his trip and his papers, and that we can enjoy this week and that he can enjoy so too.
Finally, a quick shout out to Ms. Katie and the CIPLC directors who are successfully strengthening and expanding the school's profile and activities, including an "elective" like band class. Each and every single opportunity that is given is one that must be taken advantage of, and everyone at CIPLC is anxiously waiting for Mr. Sowah Mansah!
