December is considered by many as their favorite time of the year. It is specifically that time where everything that happened over the last 365 days are over and present us with new experiences. Given that our year is so close to be over, we should look back and remember the top ten most vital moments that happened from the past 12 months.

2. Ebola Virus Outbreak
The Ebola outbreak in West Africa was first reported in March 2014 and has rapidly become the deadliest occurrence of the disease. Currently, the number of deaths is increasing non-stop and is becoming a major problem.
3. Malaysia Airlines
According to the CNN News, all 300 people in a Malaysia Airlines plane died after the airplane crashed in eastern Ukraine. Another Malaysian Airplane went missing with over 200 passengers on board en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing this year in March. These confounding situations were on the headline of many newspapers and sites which sparked thousands of people’s attention.
4. South Korea Ferry Sinks, Hundreds Missing
A ferry that was carrying hundreds of students to a resort island off South Korea sunk in April. Hours after the disaster, there were hundreds of others that were still missing.
5. Ukraine crisis
The crisis in Ukraine began in November last year according to BBC News when Moscow President Viktor Yanukovych disagreed to deal with the EU in order to have stronger ties with Russia. More than thousands of people have died in the protests that happened in the capital Kiev.
6. Conflict in Gaza
Conflicts that lasted for about seven weeks between Israelis and Palestinians erupted in July of this year.
7. European Spacecraft Rosetta Landed on Comet
The European Space has marked a history in successfully landing the Rosetta Spacecraft on a comet. According to CNN News, it has taken Philae (the name of the spacecraft)10 years, a journey of about 6 billion kilometers, to land on “Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.” Scientists have hoped for this mission that Philae will be able to complete a set of experiments.
8. Venezuelan crisis
Venezuela had some troubles during the first few months of the year. A wave of anti-government demonstrations had swept through Venezuela since early February and many died in the violence. This crisis can definitely be characterized as of one the most memorable events that many Venezuelan people will remember during their lifetime.
9. Robin Williams and Joan Rivers died
One oscar-winning actor. Two famous comedians. Both of these famous individuals undoubtedly died this year. Joan Rivers died a week after suffering cardiac arrest while Robert Williams’ death was a suicide according to CNN News. Williams’ comedy and notable acting performances and River’s entertainment and sense of humor were memorable and will definitely be remembered by many.
10. Ice Bucket Challenge
Just as the saying goes, “save the best for last,” the Ice Bucket Challenge definitely has been the internet phenomenon of this year. This ‘challenge’ raised millions of dollars for charity and increased the awareness of the ALS disease around the world. People around the world shared more than a million ice bucket-related videos posted on a plenitude of social media apps and sites such as Facebook and Instagram.
Indeed, this has been a year of significant happenings; the year 2014 has surely astounded us in terms of worthy events that occurred from around the world. That being said, we should all remember any other moments that challenged us or somehow made them our greatest triumph, and we should all cherish other unforgettable moments.
