New Year… new beginning.
3…2…1… Happy New Year! The countdown we wait 365 days for, and the time in which we feel renewed again. New Years Eve is the night we all wish to carry out perfectly in order to start the next year with the right foot. Whether it’s on a boat in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, being in Times Square when the ball drops, or watching the fireworks with our families, there are a million ways to spend the last night of the year. However, what we do or where we go is not always how we imagine our “dreamy” or “perfect” NYE.

Some of the CIPLC students shared their extravagant and humble perceptions of the faultless final evening. While some go for the modest “dinner with my family”, “being in my country with those who I love”, “having friends over, play some games and have a good laugh”, and “watching the fireworks at El Morro with my relatives”, others decided to ‘go big rather than home’ with their fancy thoughts. “Dress up exquisitely for a Gala in Paris and have some champagne”, “be in the City of Lights when the clock strikes 12” or “contemplate the beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower in Paris” are some of the over the top but not unreachable imaginings of occupying their New Years Eve. Fortunately, I got the privilege to experience the vision of many in 2010; spending this lovely and eternal evening at the Eiffel Tower ‘avec un coup du champagne’ with my family, basically, living the dream. Not all of us wish to be in a luxurious place, eating elaborate cuisine, and drinking an expensive glass of wine, rather than be with those who appreciate and care for us dearly and having an entertaining time. Waiting for the hours to rush by is part of what the 31st of December supposedly is about, yet the truth is that wherever we do or whoever we are with it doesn’t matter, because we will have a fresh start the next day anyways and it will always turn out to be magical.
