Looking for the best Christmas gift for your friend? Or maybe you could not find a good Christmas tree but still want to have one?
Be inspired by unusual art mediums and create!
Today we will talk about amazing artists who came up with unusual ideas of art creations. They found something interesting in normal bubble gum, which you can find in every store, or in old computer pieces...
You can use these examples as inspiration for gift making or may be you will want to do unusual Christmas tree.
World in little box!
Jim Doran’s idea is not very new: this is called diorama. For diorama project/creation you need to use the “box” or something like that and put in there pieces (you can make them from paper or from anything else) to make a 3-D picture. But Jim Doran used usual little boxes from Altoids, Twinings, even iPod shuffle box - everything you can find at home! Bubble gum as a gift. Why not? No, we don’t suggest you to present your friend only a pack of gum. Idea ofMaurizio Savini is life-size gum-sculpture. “The reason I like to use chewing gum is because it seemed to me an amazingly versatile material compared to those used by the traditional arts such as painting. I work the chewing gum when it is warm and manipulate it with a knife just like some traditional material like clay. The most important step is the fixing of the sculptures with formaldehyde and antibiotic.” - Artist says. Of course, it is really hard to repeat his fascinating work, but that will inspire everyone! |
Reason to collect old prescription bottles !
This installation called “Chemical Balance” was made by very talented artist Jean Shin. What did she use? Prescription bottles and glue! That’s it. It is really inspiring idea for unusual Christmas tree or huge-sculpture gift box, which consists of 24 bottles (for every December day before X-Mas!) with pretty presents inside. |
Think before giving your lego-set to a younger brother...
...and maybe you will become future Nathan Sawaya! He is a world-renowned artist, who can make lego-sculptures of ANYTHING! He also built a real-size lego-two story-house. Amazing! So..what about lego-Christmas tree? If you do not have enough lego bricks, you can just make a lego-star for this tree, that would add some “retro-style” to your Christmas celebration. |
Cereal picture. Although our parents always told us something like “Food is not a toy! You cannot play with it!”, they did not say that food is not an art medium, so we can use it! There are a lot of ‘cereal artists’ and they use different types of cereals and usually they use paint to change color as well, but I decided to tell and show you Sarah Rosado’s work, because all that she works with are just cereals. No brushes, no paint, no pencils. Use spoon, cereals, glue and paper to draw a fantastic picture! |
Caution! Highly Flammartable!
Next artist - David Mach - uses match sticks for his projects. He always does “Match sticks heads”, but Tuqueque suggests to use them for every sculpture idea that exists in your head!
Interesting fact about David Mach’s installation is that by the end of it, he burns his works and that looks scary and adorable at the same time.
As you can see, there are a lot ideas of ‘art without pencils’, and you should not stop at these ones! Try to find something new and different, and you will 100% impress everyone with your gifts!
