2013, 2013! You had your good musical moments and your bad ones! It is my turn for my selection of the 5 songs I enjoyed the most, the ones that were released this year. My selection will lack some songs and even albums since 5 are very few. Don’t be surprised if you do not know any of these songs or bands, because it is my personal list with hardcore, punk, metal and rock tastes. Do not be afraid to try these bands if you desire-- taste is a matter of decision ;)
Well, let’s begin!
Northlane - Quantum Flux
This “single” coming from “Singularity” was by far, my favorite of the album. The song was clearly made to evoke a relaxing imagery with the lyrics, introducing some taste with the breakdown. When you listen to this, just aim for the tune to take you. Also it is a good song to dedicate yourself to; it’s very detailed and somewhat romantic ;) Besides this, I would also recommend listening to the whole LP Singularity.

Obey The Brave - Full Circle
This was a major comeback from the Canada HxC combo led by Alex Erian. In my criteria, it is a very well achieved song with a clear message of perseverance, not giving up and not failing to others. After their 2012 release “Young Blood”, some consider this a major comeback due to the good reception by the audience, considering the sound to be renewed.

Motorhead - Heartbreaker
What can we say about this? By luck, most people know Motorhead. They came back with their album “Aftershock” which I personally loved too much. This was one of the most awaited records of this year since it is such a prestigious band with a long road behind it and with Lemmy Kilmister being one of the biggest icons of Rock ‘N’ Roll. Heartbreaker just gave us a sip of what the new material was going to be like. It gave us rock n roll just like their other albums “Inferno”, “The World Is Yours” and “Sacrifice” but with a little more of heaviness into it!

The Zeta - El Rompeolas (The Wavebreaker)
Right now promoting one of the best local bands in the Venezuelan scene, or even, the Puerto La Cruz scene, Zeta came back with a new album: Explosion del Cosmos del Alma. Their single was “El Rompeolas” which is the first track of the album. This song is a starter for what is to come from the album. Why? It has everything that represents them: Philosophical lyrics, post-rocky ambiance and later on… a bit of chaos for the masses. It has been a little difficult to tell what kind of music these guys play. I would say they play a mix of Crust Punk, Post Rock, Post Hardcore and some experimental music. In the album (not only the song) if you look for chaos, calm passages, screamable and cheering lyrics then this album is for you.

Black Sabbath - God Is Dead?
To end this list, I have to finish with the most awaited song from the most awaited album from the most famous band in history. Black Sabbath reunited, yes. They only lacked Bill Ward to play with them while Brad Wilk from the mighty Rage Against The Machine substituted for him in studio. To begin with, the atmosphere in this song is somber, with Ozzy in the lead questioning the existence of a deity and Tony Lommi spewing powerful quiet chords with his fingers. Afterwards, the song kind of explodes into a crungy, doom metal-like, slow riff with a rhythm that makes you feel as if you are in a cemetery listening to the record. If you want to know more, you have to listen to the song AND the album.
