Now that we approach Christmas and the end of the year, everyone is trying to put together their goals for the New Year 2014 and is highlighting their best moments of this year. I would love to tell you about one of my many goals of the upcoming year: I want to try fencing. As some people may know, I am graduating this year so I am excited to try new things in the second semester here and the first semester of my freshman year in college.
I had an interest for this sport when I saw a year ago how a fencer, Ruben Limardo, won the gold medal for Venezuela after 44 years without this country earning a prize in the Olympics. I started digging the sport and being more interested in that. I even told my mom to get me into classes but there were no classes available and no money either. I found a team here in Anzoategui but I had too many obstacles such as money and time. I am looking forward to beginning this sport in college next year or maybe even here. Since last year, I never lost the curiosity for this discipline even though I do not practice it. It definitely catches my absolute attention and I find it awesome how many abilities you have to possess in order to master this sport: concentration, precision, movement and strategy are those that need to be mastered in order to be ready for combat.
My doctrine says that if you like something, go for it! No matter what it is, it is your decision to attempt a goal or not. If you choose not to do it, no one will do it for you and someone will master it better than you! You might lose the opportunity to show a hidden talent. Fence on!
