Global Issues Network club is an activity that has been happening under the noses of many of the students at CIPLC without them noticing it. GIN club is a group of students that will complete projects to help our world, to reduce our carbon footprint, or any general action that will make our community a better place.
There are GIN conferences all around the world, and these are for students to present their projects and for other people to get to know what they are doing. In this way, the projects are not only happening in one place, but inspiring others and taken to other places. March 13 to 15 was the date for the one this year, this conference was in Carol Morgan School in Dominican Republic. It was a great experience because not only could we share and learn about many great projects from other schools around the world but we could also socialize, and get to know people from other schools.
For this Conference, CIPLC took two teams. The first team consisted of Alejandro Reyes, Jiwon Seo, Annabella Baumann, and Pedro Rojas, and the second group had Samantha Rodriguez, Ambar Casado, Alazne Egues and Lama Jaber, but in this group only Ambar Casado and Samantha Rodriguez could travel. The first team had a project that consisted of composting and gardening-- the composting was only composting the food that the school threw away and the second part consisted of teaching kids about the gardening and plants. The other group was more of a hands on group, because they went into a public school and tried to help them upgrade the building by improving their plumbing and the ventilation with more fans for the school.
This conference is not as many people think it is. It is not a huge group of environmentalists who only talk is about the world and pollution; this conference has many students who are just like you and they like to help with the environment. These conferences are a place where you not only go to work, but you will also go to meet many new people and have a good time.
In conclusion GIN is one of the activities that the school has and many of the students ignore, because they might think it simply another burden without any reward. This is not true, because GIN is not a large burden of work, because you have a long time to do the work you have for the conference. Finally GIN is a small group that is waiting for new members, and for people who are willing to make a change. Join to accompany us to Colegio Lincoln in Buenos Aires, Argentina from October 31 to November 2.
