Social media can be dangerous for many people, and couples are not safe with Facebook, Twitter or other social media being totally present in the relationship’s life. Social media can be damaging for a couple. Why? We’ll see!
It is studied that Facebook has changed relationships in a bad way especially because the “couple” or the people do not use the media well, they use it with such irresponsibility and carelessness that people may find out through this that two people are dating and it might hurt the relationship. There are numerous ways Facebook and other media changed or affected dating. Examples are diverse but we can see cases where one person “stalks” or over analyzes the activity of his/her partner in the web. One can also see what their partner is doing and the comments of other people too which can fuel jealousy in one.
It is also said that Facebook may produce stress in a relationship. This can mean that you may think that your relationship with your girlfriend or boyfriend might be endangered by other people in the social media. One problem that causes too much trouble in dating (or even friendship) is that TOO MUCH information is shared in forms of pictures, statuses, etc. It can let other people know what you are up to and no discretion is used. Another factor that may stress but we never imagine it would be on this list (or even article) is the awkward moment when you receive a friendship request from your ex. It causes stress due to the fact that you would want to eliminate that person from your life and you cannot express anything about past relationships in social networks. People may also notice when you are in a relationships thanks to the way you treat other people in your personal web space. Social networks can be eye openers for a person if his/her partner is doing something “wrong” inside the relationship, such as cheating. We also have to take into account that breaking up is hard to do in person for some people thus they just use Facebook to do this difficult chore. Thanks to the level of hardship of breaking up live, many resort to the act of breaking up by Facebook.
In conclusion, social media can be a lethal weapon against relationships or even friendships in the internet. People may blackmail you or even put you down. Remember if you are going to be dating, use the internet wisely to avoid destroying lives. It is better to stay out of Facebook when dating! Stay discrete!
Did you know? 60% of Facebook users list themselves in some sort of relationship.
