Thanksgiving is a tradition practiced in the United States, Liberia, Canada and Puerto Rico. Even though it is not an event we Venezuelans cherish as it is not part of our roots, the national holiday mainly celebrated in North America hits the calendar in our school. Due to the fact that we have Americans studying and teaching in our school, we consider the celebration needed. This national holiday is a day of giving thanks for the blessings of the harvest and of the preceding year. Thanksgiving has its history; it goes back to the Protestant Reformation in America. This event has its religious and cultural traditions and it is also celebrated by many in a secular way.
In CIPLC every year, we celebrate this holiday by eating some turkey at school and having some fun with our friends and close relatives. Last year we celebrated this day with the same traditions: eating turkey and having fun. We even enjoyed some live performances from some students who were willing to show their talents on stage. Parents, students and CIPLC staff were present to celebrate this holiday. This year, we will have our Thanksgiving day off on Friday, November 29 so do not forget to have some turkey at home! Happy Thanksgiving!
