Radioactive Revolution
Many people talk about revolution and rebelling themselves and it does not matter if it is against a thought, a government, or oppression. Revolution is something necessary if we need a change. Revolution does not necessarily mean a governmental reform of ideals. Revolution goes further than that. It means a change of society through a flow of innovative ideas within a community. Examples of revolution can be presented when someone is in discomfort with an entity that controls him such as government or a set of ideals.
Revolution is also present in the music world with certain musical innovations and even lyrical novelties being presented in the market. “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons is a total anthem of uprising. The song deals mainly with the subject of preparation for an upheaval and being wild in the way of voicing your ideas. The song is a scream of angst. “I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones. Enough to make my systems blow. Welcome to the new age, to the new age”. The song says this as a yell to rebellion, ready to explode. The artist cites a call to change, rage going out of their bodies and letting people know how they feel. Also, the band cites the danger of using “unwanted chemicals” in the air such as greenhouse gases created by mankind, weaponry pollution or automobile contamination.
Now let’s talk about the video. The drum is a symbol of liberation and the video has details that lead to a call of liberating everything inside you. The music video is actually a story of defeat and victory; it is confrontational as it tries to persuade the public to take care of the planet Earth. Going to the meaning of the video, we can see people smoking which is a practice against the environment (the smoke can disrupt the environment in various ways). The singer refers to the cigarette smokeas dangerous for the ecosystem.
The point of the song and the video clip is to put some consciousness into people’s minds, to voice their opinion if they need to and to take care of the environment efficiently. Hope the song has done that to you as well!
