Talent vs. training is a topic that was derived out of the science dilemma of nature versus nurture. This has been a discussion between many different scientists and it has been partially proven that it is nature that has the major effect on an individual’s talent. In sports this is also true, but some people might not agree because some people are naturally better than others: this is because this person is likely to be a high responder, because he can improve with less amount of training. “Not everyone responds the same to exercise. Some people see visible results faster than others”. If an athlete is a high responder then they will become better with less practice.
Many people ask themselves what are the differences between a high responder and a low responder. As many of you might know “genetics play a role in how much and how quickly a person can develop“ because a person who is a high responder is going to get better in a sport than a low responder, because a high responder’s skills will grow faster.
You can also inherit positive traits; it has been proven that many champions or first class athletes have been granted with a gift that can extend their limits, some of these gifts can be larger veins, providing better oxygenation to the muscles. On the other hand “someone with limited genetic potential can find ways to compensate and become a solid performer”, because they do not have the same physical capabilities that other competitors might have. People who do not have a genetics that will favor them cannot reach the same potential that another person can reach.
This can be an explanation of why someone who trains less than you in a sport is better than you even if you practice harder. Let this information serve as a response to people who are better than you -- just say, “He/she has better genetics.”
