You are freshly out in the world as a student or a businessman with a certain amount of money to spend on a trip. Think carefully though, because you can’t go everywhere you want. The money you have will serve you for the sole purpose of getting you to your destination and might pay for the usual expenses (food and such). But what if you wanted to spend a bit more? How can you manage with the budget you've got? Here are some solutions to those tight budget problems.
Do your research! Traveling is more than just going from one place to another and if you want to enjoy your stay as much as possible you’ll have to think about the transportation you will be taking. Think of cheap way to travel by looking at many places on the internet where you can research and get some information on that matter. You can find a variety of ways in which you don’t need to waste all your money on getting there.
Research about your stay as well! You want to be thinking about where you will be staying. This time think cheap but also be pondering about your accommodations. Consider little motels, or bed and breakfasts, as there are quite a few that are pretty neat and many have said that bed and breakfasts are pretty nice to stay in. If you’re looking to travel AND be comfortable there are these trains called couchette trains (I think it’s only in Europe that you find them but still take them into consideration if you are traveling there) that fill in both travel and lodging and take you many places. If you want to hit two birds with one stone, then stay at a hostel! It is way cheaper than a bread and breakfast and it’s quite nice since you get to meet new people in there. It’s basically a budget oriented shared room and it’s usually for short term stays but you benefit from the low pricing. It is usually a room with bunk beds but you can have a private room as well. Consider it like a university dormitory or a least it’s very similar to one (it might be better for those younger, newly set-out to the world people).
Remember: the more the merrier! Really, find out if you are traveling or can travel with friends so you can split the costs of the trip. It’ll be less for you of course and you can enjoy more. Obviously you’re not going to force them to travel with you but if they are willing to, then by all means take them to make your expenses a bit lighter (even if it’s that annoying co-worker you dislike, invite him and get to know him-- maybe he isn't that bad).
What will your day be like? Figure out your day before you even think of stepping foot outside. What you want to think about is ways to save money. There are plenty of people in the place you are staying, consider talking to them and take in their suggestions (if you’re staying at a hostel try asking people in there, they might be really friendly and helpful for this and you could enjoy yourself in there as well). Also consider not going out to get your food. I’m not saying don’t go out of your room at all and starve, no, I’m saying avoid eating out. Some restaurants are pretty expensive and let’s face it, with a set budget you probably don’t have the luxury to do that. Buy food at markets and/or prepare it at your motel if possible.
Don’t be afraid of the cheap. Embrace it, and try to make the best with only spending a little. There are many ways to do it and I’m sure you can find the best one that suits you. These are only a few tips that can help you get into a good trip without spending much, so elongate your stay in that place and make the best of it!
