All the way up in Los Llanos the frightening figure of El Silbon appears. The story tells about a man with deformities who is tall and very skinny and carries a bag of bones. With his famous whistling he can make you sense a cold, strange and obscure feeling that will cool up your blood.
The legend describes El Silbon as a soul in sorrow; he is a very spoiled teenager who killed his father because he wouldn’t let him hunt a deer and drink its entrails. When his mother knew that he killed him, she damned him forever and tortured him. She told their dog “Tureco” to bite El Silbon’s ankles forever and ever while carrying the bag of bones of his dead father.
El Silbon goes after party men and drunkards. If he arrives to a house at night, he counts the bones; if no one hears him, someone in the house dies by dawn. If you feel his whistling very loudly, he is far away. If you do not really hear it, he is just near you. If you want to save yourself, just tell him won’t party anymore.
